Filippi launches two new sea boats for Beach Sprint

Following the success of the recent Coastal Rowing Challenge, held in Donoratico at the end of October, Filippi is getting ready to launch two new sea boats for its Beach Sprint category.

We’re talking about the newly designed single F84 and double F85: they will be added to the brand’s Coastal fleet, which currently offers the F80 and the F83 models in the single category and the F81 model in the double. As far as the 4x goes, we have the F82 model. Orders for the new models will be accepted immediately, and the delivery is set to begin in early January 2021.

“Our goal,” explains David Filippi, “was to design a boat that allows you to have fun on the waves with a tendency to surf the wave from stern. A boat that is easy and safe to row and above all without the saxboards that might put at the risk the safety of the athletes, who jump on and off the boat for the final rush to the beach.”

The design of the new F84 and F85

The shapes of the new Beach hulls are entirely different from the classic ones, which were created for the Endurance category, with the goal of splitting and penetrating the wave.

The new boats are designed with a new bow that makes landing on the beach comfortable, even without the help of personnel. In this sense, the bow wheel has been especially reinforced to withstand the impact even with small stones.

The volumes make it easy to rotate around the boat’s barycenter to facilitate and make the passages around the buoy spectacular.

The benefits of the new models

  • We took advantage of the idea of always having the wave on the inclined side of the bow (at the “loaf”) whenever we move from the land toward the buoy. This allows us to quickly turn the boat once the crest of the wave is crossed.
  • The stern is very load-bearing to exploit the wave’s thrust, favoring the glide, whether going straight during the return (where you get the most significant result) or continue in the slalom with the waves tilted with respect to the boat’s stern (at the “tuck”).
  • There are no flanges or thin surfaces at the saxboards that can come into contact with the athletes while they get on or off the boat.
  • The gel coat used on the hull is reinforced with adhesion agents to improve adherence with the underlying stratification.
  • All aluminum materials are replaced with sandblasted and passivated steel to ensure high resistance to corrosion.

  • There is a box for the fin and the rudder, even in the F84, with the possibility of replacement in the event of more or less severe waves
