Boat-builders have long since grappled with the issue of creating a shoe designed to be taken on and off at the beginning and end of sessions, regardless of boat or brand. At Filippi, we believe we have created the solution.
A Quick-Release shoe-plate system that is matched with the carbon plate and our Filippi Mas 20 shoe, but that can also easily be used in combination with other shoe brands and boat manufacturers.
Provided that the fixing interface of the aluminium threaded system (which does not weigh more than 30g) can be anchored to a plate with four holes pattern positioned on the footboard in correspondence with the holes under the sole.
The aluminium plate is fixed into the upper section of the carbon plate using countersunk screws. The nylon section (polyamide 12) is equipped with a “tongue” and goes directly on the sole of the shoe. A simple movement of the hands (or of the foot if you hook it up to a boat) will be enough to slide the nylon plate from bottom to top, until the tooth under the tongue hooks (clips) and locks the end of the interface.
The Quick-Release operation, as mentioned above, can be carried out manually whilst setting before going onto the water or directly in the boat. In the future, there might even be further technological developments, both in the choice of system materials but also in the shoe itself to reduce the number of joints and improve direct load transmission.
There are several clear advantages to owning a shoe as versatile and adaptable as the product described above.
Hygiene is maximised as the sole user of the shoe. In owning the shoe, you can also improve durability; for example, by letting them dry properly at the end of each training session. You can guarantee a snug fit each time you set out onto the water given the shoe is custom-built for your feet. From a performance perspective, this is critical.
As mentioned, the Quick-Release system can be used on all boats that have a plate with four fixing holes, even if we recommend matching them with Filippi MAS 20 shoes (unrivalled for comfort and lightness).
A club purchasing multiple Quick-Release systems could even decide to fit a certain number of aluminium interfaces with the carbon plate of the footplate of their boats, allowing club users to purchase only the nylon interface.
